Slow Holiday Weekend
I was set to have fun, I was. And then my dependency kicked in. Friday night I tucked in and watched a bunch of True Blood and 30 Rock episodes. Quiet night at home, and all that. But Saturday, Saturday I was set to get out to Furr Trade. Gus was maybe going, Eric was maybe going, even Andrew was maybe going. I just needed one of them to commit and go with me and my night was set. Andrew never let me know for sure one way or the other - he ended up not going. Around 8pm or so Eric told me he was stuck at home with dinner and his parents, and was canceling on me. And then I waited. Gus did call me at 11 to tell me that they were going right to the bar instead of coming here for a drink first, but by 11 I had gotten so bored waiting and being cancelled on that I fell asleep on the couch watching something awful called Tool Academy. I thought there would be hot guys. I was wrong. Anyway, I woke up Sunday feeling antsy and anxious and so I decided to move furniture around my house. It helped a little. But by noon I was jonesing to do something and I decided Vegas was it. Except I didn't want to go alone. And - yes - nobody could go with me except one blind date who expected me to pay and expected a $1000 budget for a Vegas overnight. No thanks.
Going Home
Sunday night was saved because once I realized I wasn't going to Vegas, I was sad. Don called me up and invited me to dinner with his friend Cotton at a place I'd seen a dozen times before but had never been to. Home. Home. It was a really cool place - the kind that works as a low-key brunch spot and also as a nice dinner place. I'll be back now that I know what and where it is. And of course time spent with Don is always time well spent. Cotton was very nice, too - a teacher, with a nice southern drawl. A very good night. Thanks Don and Cotton.
I Have a Dream
I finally got my "day out" on Monday. Gus got off work early and he and I went to Disneyland. Among my tasks was (a) eat lunch and ingest martinis, (b) find little Mathew who was there with mom and aunts and grandma and (c) have some fun. I did two out of three. By the time Gus and I got to Ariel's Grotto for lobster nachos and a crantini, Mathew called to say they had already left the park. So sad. So then Gus and I did a few rides and met up with Brian at a bar called Flux for some post-Disney cocktails. A very nice night, by all accounts. But Monday ended late - and this page is updated late - and it all flew by so fast at the end of the weekend!
