Twins Beach Party

This should be an annual event. No, monthly. Wait, weekly. EVERY FREAKING DAY. Ok, that's too much. But this was so much fun, just going to the beach, no worries, no troubles, kicking back in the summer sunshine with friends - old and new - and enjoying each other's company. This is what good times is all about (though some people think it is about a black family in New York City, it's not). True, the water was cold. But the sunshine and the fire were warm. And Gus has been holding out on me - he's got some cute friends that were fun to stare at talk to. Speaking of Gus and his friends, Mozaic is doing a show soon... stay tuned for more details. This week on Wednesday, some of them are doing standup at the Ice House in Pasadena if anyone is interested.

Teacher Talent Show

I think I may have blown my kids' minds. I'm known for being "cool but tough" as a teacher. I don't think this helped the professional mode I try to keep up, but I think that was the point. Anyway, the Teacher Talent Show was this past week. I did a "Dancing With the Stars" number with another English teacher, Tami, and the whole gig was that we started off doing a Tango, and then she just does her own thing - Stevie Nicks style: twirls, magic hands, all that good stuff - while I just stand there, stomping my feet like a child throwing a tantrum. Until the final 32 counts where I give in and do the Monkey and the Twist before going off stage in a huff. I actually got emails from the kids this weekend saying that I rocked. Tuesday should be interesting...

The question came up - which bar is better on a Thursday night: Faultline or Eagle? Usually, I'd just skip the Faultline and head to the Eagle for their wet underwear contest. But we wanted to put it to observation and study. So Gus came up and we hit both. Maybe a bit too hard. The Faultline wasn't that great - it was supposed to be an underwear night, check your pants at the door. But it wasn't really. And then at the Eagle, the underwear contest never happened. So which is better? We'll have to put it to further study.

By now, if you live in California, you know about the election. I'm a teacher telling you you did the right thing not passing those propositions to shift money like3-card monty. California needs budget cuts, not tax increases. Thank you for doing your part.
