A Good Blind Date

So out of nowhere I met this guy, Frank. Well, not out of nowhere, from online, actually. But you get the idea. We say hello. We flirt a bit. Then he sends me his number and says I should call him later. So I do and we agree to meet for coffee at the Coffee Table in Silverlake. We meet and sit and chat through coffee - he's a fashion designer with his own company and brand and it feels really nice to be talking with someone about his career. He asks me about teaching, yadda-yadda-yadda.
Coffee is done, but conversation is not, so we decide to go back to his place and check out his etchings. Very nice etchings. Did I mention he is a soccer player from El Salvador and has the most amazing legs and ass? Right. Moving along.
We go to dinner at the Brite Spot because we're just having a good time getting to know one another. All in all, it was unexpected, but a very good blind date. Thank you, Frank, for making my week start off so well.

Dramatic Play with Happy Ending

On Friday, I had my emotions beat up. I think that's about the best compliment I can give Tony for his original play "I Am Chris." Gus sold it to me as a comedy-autobiography of sorts. And it starts out that way. But it goes deeper. As someone who has had some seriously shitty fathers in my life (birth father, step father) all the issues the character of Chris are going though touched me pretty intensely. Act 2 is much more serious, and shows a young man taking his steps into adulthood and self-responsibility. But it also shows the struggles around family responsibility. It was good. Better than good. I wont spoil the ending, because it's playing for two more weeks at the Lex Theater. You can get tickets from anyone in Mozaic - just drop them an email. But go see this show.

Beatin' the Heat

It's warming up here in Glendale. No, we aren't having 100+ degrees with thunderstorms like they are back east and down south, but when it gets into the 90's it's hot for me. Good thing I have that pool. And truly, I'm about the only one who uses it weekdays. So in my mind, I am not alone. I am surrounded by the wildest, craziest half-nekkid gay men all having the best time at my pool party! Woot woot! Yeah, it only looks like I'm laying back alone on my chaise listening to podcasts... but in reality, I'm the DJ for the trashiest gay pool party around!

Burnin' Up the Wicker Man

The weekend ended on Sunday night with something I've been wanting to do for a long time. Hollywood Forever Cemetery has summer movies in the graveyard. This Sunday, the movie was the 1973 version of The Wicker Man with Christopher Lee. A cult classic of sorts. It was great fun to hit up Trader Joe's for a picnic dinner, and then take Don out to the tombstones for a bit of movie mystery. Very good times. I don't think I'll make it a regular thing, but it was certainly something creative to do in this big city of LA.
