Kylie... Fucking KYLIE!
Right. After twenty-two years (though I saw her 9 years ago) Kylie kicked off her first ever tour (mini-tour, six cities only) of North America. Oakland, Las Vegas Los Angeles, Chicago, New York and Toronto. How amazing that California gets two dates and one of them was 15 minutes from my house. Awesome! You can find the set list online everywhere, so I won't bore you with that. I'll just tell you that it friggin' rocked being there with the Princess of Pop and her hot and hunky dancers.
On the disappointing side, it was sad that I couldn't even give the tickets away. I bought 4 tickets hoping I'd have a date and some friends to go with. I ended up having no date, one friend, and two extra tickets. I tried selling them online at cost, I tried selling them online at discount, I tried giving them away to friends who I invited, but nope - two tickets. I basically gave them away at the Bowl because they were just going to go to waste otherwise.
On the brighter side, it was fucking KYLIE! And the show rocked, her music rocked, I love how she changes things up, so a silly pop hit becomes a lyrical ballad, how a dance number becomes a jazz hit ("The Locomotion" will now always remind me of men scantily dressed in leather pulling a train on each other). Obviously the close-up pics aren't mine, but I did want to show off a bit of the dozen or so costume changes and the interesting choreographic choices Miss Minogue made during her show. There's something about her walking on half-naked men as if they were pavement that makes me stir a bit. And what she did on that pommel horse... oh, wait, I have no pics of the pommel horse. Nevermind. If you're lucky enough to be in Chicago or New York, you must, Must, MUST go see her show. I should be so lucky as to fly out and see her again!
Gay Daze at Disneyland
As if Kylie weren't enough, Saturday was Gay Day at Disneyland for me and thousands of homos. I hung out with Joel - who I hadn't seen for almost two years but I won't go into that now - and kept seeing Don and Buzz and Jason and others, though never really hung out with them... It was a very nice day. I think my favorite has to be the Tiki Room which was slightly different for this event. Including live choreography and sing-along jazz. Maynard was quite incredible, though Mama stole the show.
Things I Do and Things I Miss
I had so much fun this week. It seems like Monday through Thursday just - blip - disappears, and then the weekend is here again. This weekend actually started on Thursday - going for the best burgers ever at the Granville Cafe at the Americana here in Glendale. Too good, at least. Then a bit of a stroll around the book shop and the mall a bit. Talking. Catching up. About things we missed. Like Folsom Street at the end of September. Why can't Sunset Junction be like this? Jockstrap brunch parties, nearly naked hotness strolling the street, nude-ass Twister games in a tent. Come on, LA. You're supposed to be all "where it's at" and shit. How are we not on top of this yet? I demand, no - insist - wait, which one is more urgent and authoritative? I declare there will be jock-strapped ass next year!
