OK, it says Peep Show, but it's more. Early in the week, after his trip to Pennsylvania and my trip to Palm Springs, Don and I met up for lunch to trade stories. He needs to write his down, because they crack me up. I can't imagine dealing with that kind of insanity. Fuck. But it was nice to have a relaxing lunch at Home in Silverlake and enjoy the sunshine. Yes, people of the East, here in California it was in the 70's all week long. Sunny. Warm. Yeah. Enjoy digging your car out of the six feet of snow.
And then back to work. Whew! What a long week. Two whole work days! Two days of driving past the Glendale Rose Parade Float on my way to work...
So you know by Friday I was ready to get out and enjoy myself. And MJ's started a new event on Fridays called "Peep Show." Now, I was wrong about what it was - I thought it was a cabaret-style show with acts and seating and all that. It wasn't. It started slow, with just things happening in the fringes of the bar - as though it was just a fancy name for gogo-boys (and girl). I was feeling like I'd been ripped off. Even though it was free...
But after a while, it took the shape of a show. There were "acts" on a main stage, and we had a front row view sitting on the stools at the bar. It wasn't ideal, but it wasn't bad. And in between the acts, there were the gogo-boys to watch.
Leo Madrid, the promoter of Peep Show came up before the show was over to talk to Don and I. Making sure we were enjoying the show, that we'd had a good time. He remembered that I'd written him last week to make sure it would be cool to bring my camera and shoot some shots for this site. He was cool with it, and was glad that we were enjoying the show. And he was kinda cute, too... a choreographer who put this show together with his friends and, I think, it can be a success. I'd like to see it more like a "show" but maybe that's me being old-fashioned. I wish it much success. |
