Saturday. Work and play, two in one. We call that balance.
So I had to sit with 14 bad boys in a 4-hour detention. Well, when I say "had to" I really mean I volunteered to get paid overtime rates for 5 hours (and work 4) to sit in detention. I read email on my iPhone, they watch videos about anger management and anti-bullying. And write. Lots. Essays about what they did to end up here, essays on how they will change their behavior in the future, essays on how students can help end violence on campus, etc.
And then, more violence. Avatar. Don and his very good friend Keriann had invited me to go see my very first Imax 3-D movie: Avatar. All I can say is people suck. If you haven't seen it, it's amazing. AMAZING. Seriously. They must have spent twenty-seven years making this movie - the CGI was unbelievable, the 3-D effects were rocking, As a pagan, it definitely had a message I could get into. From a colonialist criticism point of view, it has connections to the past on a national and global scale. As a queer theorist, the outsider idea rang loud and clear. In short, go see it. Go see it! |
