HOLLYWOOD AND BEYOND WITH DON
(AND ELMO)

Finally, the real weekend was here. Tuesday's class, great; Thursday's movie, great; but this was the real weekend. Supergreat. I went and did some shooting of my project (maybe you've seen it?) on Saturday morning early. That's when the good light it, don't ya know? And then instead of driving back home and hibernating, I called Don and asked if he wanted to go to breakfast. He did, so we did. Cafe d'Etoille in West Hollywood. I remembered it being good from years ago, but hadn't been in ages. It is still good, you'll be glad to hear. Delicious omelettes and croissants. Nice rich coffee. And a view of Santa Monica Blvd. with the pretty people doing pretty things on a pretty day. Yes, it was a pretty day - after a week of rain, the sky was as blue as I've seen in ages.

After breakfast, we weren't ready to just quit the day, so we strolled along Hollywood Blvd, did some shopping at Hollywood & Highland, and generally enjoyed the day. I mean, where else can you see Elmo, Jesus, and Lawrence Fishburn all in a few hours? I love that Elmo is on the same level as Jesus. That seems fitting, in a way.

Much walking, people-watching, and gossiping later, it was time to call it a day. I wanted to review my photos from the morning shoot in case they didn't look the way I wanted (they didn't, or rather, they didn't follow the directions from class which I had forgotten to take with me during the shoot). I also wanted to shower up and unwind a bit. I thought I might join Don at the Eagle Friday night, but I ran into inertia and I just couldn't win.

So on Sunday, another day of shooting. This was the day of the merry-go-round incident. But I got what I needed and enjoyed my day putting the pictures together, cropping and organizing them. And again, hunger reared his ugly head. I called Don and asked if he wanted to do Souplantation. He did and we did. And it was the night of the Mr. Ashram West Leather Contest at the Eagle. My friend Jojo was supposed to be running, and I wanted to see him in a leather jock. So despite me not having anything to wear (I don't own a decent-fitting pair of jeans and I don't own ANY black pants at all, and the camo shorts I have, I tore holes in when I went panning for gold), I went. I felt horrible. Nothing fit right, I didn't look right. I didn't get up early enough to get a good camera spot for the contest, either. So I stayed a bit, Don saw a whole bunch of people he knew, and I made my goodnight. The end of a very fun week.
