So one way to get busy and meet new people is to take a class. Like photography. Or guitar. Well, I haven't actually met any new people that I like, but I am enjoying the classes. Tuesday night in Photography, my pictures from last week of the fountain and the rose got featured, not because they were great pictures, but because I followed directions and organized them correctly to see the changes in lighting. They were good examples of how bad photographs will be if you don't light them correctly. Nice. This week we were supposed to go out and practice metering. It was interesting, less dramatic than last week with step-by-step instructions, but I think I did alright. I chose to go down to Chinatown and see what it had to offer early of a Saturday morning. And I got some interesting pictures I'd like to do more with someday. The one of the red lanterns is especially interesting to me.
On Thursday night I started a new guitar class. It is a small class of 11 students at the LA Gay Center. It was alright. Very different from the class I tried to summers ago (and dropped because the teacher was a great player but a horrible teacher). So this week I have been practicing my G and Gm chords, my Am and my A5, as well as my pentatonic scales. Sounds massive, doesn't it? And I can do it, as long as the metronome is on super-duper-slow mode.
Anyway, I'm having fun and getting out two nights a week. I think it's great so far and I hope to keep enjoying it. And who knows, I might just be the next folk song idol... if they ever make that show. |
