CLASS-LESS: DRUNKEN KARAOKE AND TRANNY ROCK STARS

Thursday after class, as I was in West Hollywood, I called up Don and met him for Dinner at Koo Koo Roo's - good chicken. Not wanting to end the night so early, dinner turned into cocktails and karaoke at Hamburger Mary's. An odd group, this was. The guy who sang "White Rabbit" was especially unnerving. And I'm not sure the girl who sang the Madonna song had ever heard it before in her life. But Don did a sexy version of "Take a Walk on the Wild Side" by Lou Reed... it seemed fitting. Jerry, our sexy-armed waiter even brought the house down (all 7 of us who were left) with some country number or other, about a dance... or something... who can tell, I was just looking at his arms.

We found out that HM would be hosting a live stage version of Hedwig and the Angry Inch on Saturday night. Don had never seen it live, I have seen it a few times and loved it. So we booked in for Saturday night. The show was good - intense, of course, and intimate being so close to it all. I was put off by his "non-Hedwig" look at first, but after a while, the character started to matter more than the clothes and it all fell into place. But we got pretty tipsy being served all night long during the two-hour monologue. It was very impressive that some people who wanted to do this just decided to get up and DO it (the theme of the week, I suppose).

So now I'm a fan of the Plastic Theatre - you can find them on Facebook, as long as you spell it correctly, the European way. The actor, Jeffrey, talked to us after the show. He said he's been asked to either tour to all the different Mary's and perform, or come back monthly to do the show at the WeHo location. So keep yourself updated and maybe I'll see you at the next live performance!
