ZOO-MANITY

Monday was another of those random school holidays - Washington's Birthday (observed). This meant almost nobody had it off, but I did. It means also that the school year extends one more day into June to make it up.

Looking for something to do - and not really wanting to drive all over hell and back - I called up Don to see if he'd be interested in going to the LA Zoo. I don't think I'd ever been in my life, and he hadn't been in ten years, so... off we went.

I really wished I had my new Canon, but I had to make do with my little Nikon Coolpix. It did a fairly decent job - but I wish I had been able to take more interesting / artsy shots of some of the animals. It was pretty cool - the zoo was mostly empty and the animals were... well... they were there, even if they weren't terribly active. It had just been a rainy weekend and I figured they'd all be out and moving, happy to have some sunshine, but apparently sunshine and movement are nearly so interesting to animals as they are to humans. Zoologists, take note. We saw lots of monkeys, and I think I liked the gorillas best. They at least did something. The lion just lay there. The giraffes just stood there. We didn't make it to the elephants or hippos, but I imagine they were just... there... doing nothing.

Anyway, it was fun. Now that I have my new Canon, I'll probably go back and make a photo assignment out of it.
