So upon my return in Los Angeles, my calendar reminded me that it was time for Comikaze Los Angeles. It seemed like one of those things that you talk about doing, but never really do. But this time I did it. I felt so very, very out of place. People stopped me to describe their product... their comic book... their webseries... their television show. What?
So we got liquored up, took the subway down to the Los Angeles Convention Center, and purchased our tickets. A day full of joy for just $12. How can that be bad?
The good news is that it was worth every penny. I wasn't so sure when I caught sight of a guy wearing a towel pinned to his neck. Is this LA representing Comikaze?
Of course I had my camera and my primary goal was to catch photos of the bizarreness of the situation. I knew it would be a fun day when we caught Kelly (Omigod...SHOES!)
People were funny, they stopped to pose whenever I held my camera up. It was kinda cool. I suppose having a mask or costume gives you license to be outrageous and a bit wild.
I got to see Butch Patrick - Eddie, from The Munsters. That was... neat.
Don got to meet one of his idols - James Duval. He was Frank from Donnie Darko and has been in a bunch of Gregg Araki movies. He also met Angus Oblong, a cartoonist who has some very sexy twin friends. Cassandra Peterson was there (Elvira), and that great chanteuse Morgan Fairchild. Erin Gray, from Buck Rogers? Anyone? Anyone?
Overall, the pictures say more than I could - mostly because I don't understand what I saw. But I saw some pretty hot things. Very hot.
